Brief History of The University
            The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) was established on January 6, 1978 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1279 issued by the then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The decree merged the then Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology (MMMCST) in Batac and the Northern Luzon State College (NLSC) in Laoag City, and integrated the college departments of the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College (INAC) and the Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades (INCAT).
          MMSU’s mandate is to provide advanced instruction in the arts, agricultural and natural sciences, and technological and professional fields.
          MMSU’s 300-hectare main campus is located in the heart of the City of Batac, a peaceful young city conducive for educational and rural development. The university also has campuses in Laoag City, and in the towns of Currimao and Dingras. MMSU offers 66 degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Majority of these programs are accredited at various levels by an evaluation body for state universities and colleges. It is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Center of Excellence (COE) in Teacher Education, and Center of    Development (COD) in Agriculture, Biology, Forestry and Information Technology Education.  It has also been chosen as one of the few National Universities for Agriculture and Fisheries Education in the entire Philippines.
         To date, MMSU has 11 academic units: Graduate School (GS), College of Law (COL), College of Medicine (COM), College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD), College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology (CASAT), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Business, Economics and Accountancy (CBEA), College of Engineering (COE), College of Health Sciences (CHS),  College of Industrial Technology (CIT) and College of Teacher Education (CTE). These are distributed in six campuses : main campus (Batac), campus 2- Laoag, campus 3- Laoag, campus 4-Currimao, campus 5- Dingras, and campus 6-Paoay. The main campus houses seven academic units: COL, COM, CAFSD, CAS, COE, CBEA, CHS; campus 2, CTE and GS; campus 3, CIT; and campus 4, CASAT. The two other campuses, campus 5 and 6, are satellite campuses of CAFSD and CIT, respectively.

Geographical Location
            MMSU is located in Ilocos Norte, a province in the northwestern part of Luzon Island, Philippines. Its main campus of about 300 hectares is in Batac, 472 km away from Manila. Batac is an agricultural and peaceful town, which affords and excellent environment for educational and rural development. The location allows convenient commuting from the boundaries of Batac and the towns of Paoay, Currimao, San Nicolas and Laoag City. Passenger jeepneys, mini buses and buses pass by the campus. In addition, the province has an international airport in Gabu, Laoag City and seaport at Gaang, Currimao.
            MMSU also maintains five other campuses. These are located in Laoag City (2 campuses), Currimao, Dingras and Paoay.

Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory Elementary School


VISION
              The Laboratory Elementary school endeavor to become the lead elementary school in the region.

MISSION
              The Laboratory Elementary School supports the College of Teacher Education’s mission of providing quality instruction by serving as a Laboratory for the quality training of would-be-training for national and international development.

GOALS
To fulfill its mission, the Laboratory Elementary School seeks to attain the following goals:
  1. Produce quality on-campus teaching and other related experiences for BEED students.
  2. Implement the basic Education Curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education.
  3. Develop student teachers’ and pupils’ sound values, leadership capabilities, talents, and skills through its co-curriculum programs and projects.
  4. Conduct researches to improve teaching and learning processes.
  5. Work harmoniously with the PTCA and other agencies for the improvement and development of the entire school.
  6. Extend services for the improvement of the quality of life of the community.

SCHOOL POPULATION
The MMSU-LES has two (2) campuses:
The Laoag Campus and The Batac Campus. In Laoag Campus, it consists of a nursery class, kindergarten class, and 2 sections from Grades 1 to 6. In Batac Campus, as of S.Y 2018-2019, there are only Grades 3,4,5, and 6 with 1 section respectively.

1.2  Academic Support System
            Academic support system in MMSU LES provided a rich knowledge and discussion between the students and the teacher. At the beginning of every lesson, the teacher always motivate the students. The teacher motivate the students to be active and have more experiences in school, so the students never afraid or hesitate to ask a question to the teacher. To improve cognitive knowledge, the teacher vary the activities in discussion, asuch as ask question or present the lesson with rich examples. To improve their psychomotor, the teacher will give the students group worksheet which is related to the topic of the lesson. Besides training their psychomotor, it also trains the students to work in group.
Then to improve affective the teacher will give them a test like wrap up or evaluation so the teacher will know the different form the students before and after learning.
1.3  Teaching System
            MMSU-Laboratory Elementary School follows the K to 12 curriculum. In science, under the K to 12 curriculum, it employs the spiral apporach.
1.4  Materials and Other Learning Sources
            MMSU-LES following by the prescribed teaching and learning guides by Departement of Education. The school not given textbooks from the government. That is the reason that we are prescribing books from commercial publishers or book companies which are K to 12 compliant. Teaching materials are or instructional materials are prepared by teachers based on online and printed sources.
1.5  Measurement and Evaluation System
            Procedures followed by MMSU-LES is based on the DepED memoranda under the K to 12 Curriculum. Assesment is the process of measuring learners progress in the attainment of learning standard and 21st century skills. The results of various form of assesment shall be used to quantify judgements on learnes academic performance
1.6  Curriculum
  • In kindergarten, the pupils are mandated to learn the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colours through games, songs, pictures and dances, but in their native language; thus after Grade 1, every student can read on his/her native tongue.
  • The 12 original mother tongue languages that have been introduced for the 2012–2013 school year are Bicolano, Cebuano, Chavacano, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Maguindanaoan, Maranao, Pangasinense, Tagalog, Tausug and Waray-Waray.
  • 7 more mother tongue languages have been introduced for the 2013–2014 school year. These are Aklanon, Ibanag, Ivatan, Kinaray-a, Sambal, Surigaonon and Yakan.
  • A common poem read in Filipino kindergartens is Ang aking alaga (My pet); a common song, Ako ay may lobo (I have a balloon).
  • In Grade 1, the subject areas of English and Filipino are taught, with a focus on "oral fluency".
  • In Grade 4, the subject areas of English and Filipino are gradually introduced, but now, as "languages of instruction".
  • The Science and Mathematics subjects are now modified to use the spiral progression approach starting as early as Grade 1 which means that every lesson will be taught in every grade level starting with the basic concepts to the more complex concepts of that same lesson until Grade 10.
  • The high school from the former system will now be called junior high school, while senior high school will be the 11th and 12th year of the new educational system. It will serve as a specialized upper secondary education. In the senior high school, students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. Senior high school subjects fall under either the core curriculum or specific tracks.
  • Core curriculum learning areas include languages, literature, communication, mathematics, philosophy, natural sciences and social sciences.
